Swim Safety
On Tuesday Whaea Tracy came to teach us about swim safety. Take a mobile phone and a radio when you go on the boat and go on channel 16 and don’t forget to wear a lifejacket on the boat. Whaea Tracy picked 6 people to do the act Reitu, Vanya, Jack,Chum chum, Rymon, Dalton and John. Me, Saff and Taleisha got to be surfers to save the 6 people. We had to include 5 tips on how to stay safe on a boat or on the beach and then include some tips on what to do when you are on trouble. My DLO.

Healthy Eating
On Monday 17 of September, Whaea Gina came into Te Ngahere to teach us about takeaways to show how much fat there is in takeaways. Whaea Gina showed us how much fat was in the different types of takeaways. Whaea Gina showed us different takeout foods and we decided where they would go - below the healthy or unhealthy heart. Under the unhealthy heart there were foods like McDonalds, KFC, Carl's Jr, fish and chips, Wendy's. The healthy heart had foods like sushi, Kebabulous and Subway. I will use the information to not eat lots of takeaways and make healthy food choices.

Cross Country
Last week on Thursday, The whole of Paihia School went to Bledisloe for cross country. The 12 year olds had to wait for a few hours. I felt nervous when we stood at the starting line. Miss Hadwin said “GO”!!! I ran up and down the hill. There was cow poo and horse poo. It was a bit rainy but it was fun. I ran to the finish line and came second out of 5 people.

Infographic
In Te Ngahere, we created an c to show the gaming stats for our class. We were interested to find out about gaming issues in class. We filled in a survey. We found out that 55% of students lose track of time while gaming and 30% have lied to their parents about the amount of time they spend gaming. Next time I could add some images on the infographic.

Beeswaxs Wrap
Yesterday in Te Ngahere we got to make beeswax wraps. They are made from fabric and beeswax. We drew some patterns on the fabric. Once I was finished designing my fabric I went over to the whare kai to dip it in the beeswax. Anouk dipped it in and then she pulled it out. I waited for about 2 minutes. My favourite part was when we dipped the fabric into the beeswax. The reason we are having beeswax wraps is to limit the amount of rubbish we put in our lunches.

Technology
In Te Ngahere we have been doing technology with Mr Lindsay. We were learning how to use different type of equipment. We did well in sanding down the timber and oiling the timber. I like the belt sander the best. We could drill the hole a bit more accurately. Here are some photos below.

Rugby 7s Tournament
On Tuesday 7th of August 2018 some of us in year 7-8 and some year 6s got to participate in the rugby 7s tournament in Moerewa. We had a mixed team. First we lost against Kerikeri Jade. Then we played Kaingaroa. We won by one try. After that we had a bye for an hour. Next we played Okaihau Hurricanes. We lost by one try. A highlight of the day for me was scoring about 5 tries. Before the end of the day we took a photo with the World Sevens Rugby trophy, which was on display at our tournament. I can’t wait to go back next year. Here are some photos of us with the trophy.

Energise
On Monday, Whaea Gina came to school to talk to us about healthy eating. After lunch we went over to the Whare. We saw the drinks that she had. She asked the the Y7-8’s some questions about what we should be eating and drinking and not be eating and drinking. After that we got given some drinks to guess how much sugar was in them.. We found that E2 drink has 22 teaspoons of sugar in it. This was the drink that had the most sugar out of all of them. The two that you should have every day are milk and water. There are some photos below.

Ukulele lesson
On Wednesday we started to learn how to play the ukulele. Every Wednesday for five weeks we will have a lesson with Alison. We learnt all the parts of the ukulele and how to care for it. I struggled a bit with putting my fingers in the frets but it was fun. I could play a song at end of the session. The thing I could do a bit better is pay a bit more attention to the teacher.

Endemic bird, plan or animal
Two weeks ago my classroom Te Ngahere have been learning about native and endemic birds ,trees, insects and animals. All our literacy groups were allowed to choose which one we wanted to learn about. My group chose New Zealand gecko. The first presentation was not the best but the second presentation was a lot better because we got accurate information from the DOC website. I enjoyed learning and helping my group with our presentation about the gecko .
Bay Bush Action
Last week in Te Ngahere two visitors came to our class to help us become trappers for a rat and mouse free school in Paihia. We have been learning about what endemic and native animals are. They brought along with them some pests and endemic birds like the possum, hedgehog, kiwi, and some photos of animals. We got some traps to trap the rats and mice. We used bait to attract the rats and mice to come into the traps that we set and gloves to pick up the dead mice or rats that are in the traps. We put some traps along the fence line of our school. We were unable to go up the bush last week because of the weather.
